Pro content creators watch out: the LUMIX GH7 boasts features that will revolutionize your workflow
The LUMIX GH7 is causing quite a stir in the industry right now. It's catching the attention of not only existing LUMIX G-series users and videographers but also ARRI users and cinematographers. While the familiar design remains, LUMIX has pushed the boundaries of innovation with this camera, introducing features aimed at streamlining your workflow and elevating content quality.
The LUMIX GH7 shares the same body as its predecessor, the GH6, including the chunky grip, in-built cooling fan, an array of tactile buttons, and articulating LCD screen, making it a favorite among filmmakers. Users of recent LUMIX cameras such as the LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, or G9II will find the GH7's layout almost identical and easy to navigate.
- 25.2MP BSI CMOS sensor
- Phase Hybrid AF
- Cinema 4K 10-bit Video
- Rugged Sealed Body
Exciting new features go beyond the basic improvements revolutionizing the way of working for content creators of all kinds by offering mobility and high-quality video recording. These include ProRes RAW HQ Internal recording, the world's first 32-bit float recording (when combined with the DMW-XLR2, sold separately), the collaboration with ARRI LogC3 and more so that you can take your creations to the next level.
Improved content quality and reliability
ProRes RAW HQ Internal Recording
The LUMIX GH7 offers the capability to record 5.7K 30p ProRes RAW HQ footage directly on the camera body. This means that you have the freedom to capture high-quality video content without the need for external devices or complicated setups – click, record, and seize the moment. Just remember, a CFexpress card or USB-SSD is needed.
5.8K Open gate
Open Gate recording mode utilizes the entire camera sensor to capture video, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production editing. This means that you can easily adjust the aspect ratio of the video to suit various social media platforms.
Unlimited Video Recording Time
The LUMIX GH7 offers both superior portability and high-quality recording capabilities. Its advanced technology includes an integrated heat dissipation system and a cooling fan, which enable unlimited video recording. The camera can achieve 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p internal recording, even in environments with temperatures ranging from as low as 14°F to as high as 104°F. Additionally, you have the option to record both internally and externally using the HDMI output. For this functionality, it is necessary to use a CFexpress card or an SD memory card with Video Speed Class 90.
Phase Hybrid AF
This camera comes with a significant upgrade with the incorporation of PDAF technology. This cutting-edge Phase Hybrid Autofocus system not only facilitates real time detection and precise focusing but also allows for accurate tracking of moving subjects. Combining phase-detection AF and contrast AF, the LUMIX GH7 is capable of delivering precise results even in challenging lighting conditions and backlit environments, regardless of the number of subjects in the scene. This advancement is particularly noteworthy for genres where speed is a critical factor, as it ensures swift and accurate focusing.
Here you have the flexibility to select from a range of six detectable subjects and their corresponding target parts, including human faces and eyes, animals, birds, cars, and motorbikes. Additionally, the latest update introduces two new additions to the list of detectable subjects: airplanes and trains, catering to a wider range of videography scenarios.
Active I.S. Technology
The LUMIX GH7 is equipped with advanced image stabilization and offers distortion correction which significantly enhances video quality. This feature includes an E-stabilization High Mode, using algorithmic compensation to correct large shakes, ensuring that your videos shot on the go appear sharp and steady. In addition, the enhanced gimbal compatibility broadens the range of creative possibilities, enabling you to achieve more dynamic and expressive shots.
Build to revolutionize your workflow
World’s first 32-bit float recording
One standout feature of the LUMIX GH7 is the world's first 32-bit float recording capability, which is available when using the new XLR microphone adapter – the LUMIX DMW-XLR2. This advancement allows for a significantly wider range of sounds to be captured without the need to worry about adjusting levels during recording to prevent clipping of the highest and lowest frequencies. This cutting-edge technology provides greater flexibility and you can be certain that the full dynamic range of the audio is preserved.
Native Camera to Cloud integration
The camera's new support for proxy recording and Adobe Frame.io for camera-to-cloud backup is a long-awaited feature for LUMIX users. This is a game-changer for creators and small teams, offering a seamless and efficient way to collaborate and create high-quality content on the go.
By connecting to Frame.io through WiFi or USB tethering, you can share JPEG/RAW photos and proxy videos to the cloud for quick collaboration, comments, brainstorming or approval. This allows your clients or colleagues to give valuable feedback while you're on set bringing the vision to life. With the ability to start editing the video material when time allows, the small proxy files can quickly be swapped out for full-quality video later, all thanks to the link between the proxy file and the original video recording. This allows you to save both original and LUT-applied videos using REAL TIME LUT.
ARRI LogC3 availability
To record matching colors with ARRI digital cinema cameras, the LUMIX GH7 offers an upgrade. With the Software Key DMW-SFU3A, which is available separately, you unlock the ARRI LogC3 feature. Additionally, you can capture the distinctive ARRI look straight in-camera by storing the LUT package for the 709 conversions in the LUT library of the LUMIX GH7 and combine it with the REAL TIME LUT function. Visit the LUMIX website for additional details.
LUMIX is dedicated to achieving the highest possible image quality with their cameras, aiming to faithfully reflect the photographer’s intent and evoke deep emotions.
