We're still waiting on Amazon Prime Day 2021, but the international online retailer isn't holding back on its discounting spree.
Amazon Australia has kicked off a massive Mid-Year Sale that will go from May 28 and will run for 10 days. Over that time, there's going to be discounts on select camera gear, and we'll be right here to help sort out the best bargains. Amazon will be dropping different deals over the duration of the sale and we'll keep this page updated to help you find the some juicy piece of kit for less.
Unlike Prime Day, you don't need to be a Prime member to ship during Amazon's Mid-Year Sale. It's for anyone with an Amazon account. However, some items, if they're less than AU$39, will incur a shipping fee. If you're keen to avoid that, you can sign up for a Prime membership now for just AU$6.99 p/m and you'll even get a free 30-day trial period.
Amazon Mid-year Sale 2021: best camera deals
Canon EOS R5 (body only) | AU$6,499 AU$5,598 on Amazon (save AU$901)
It's the most powerful camera Canon has produced to date and it's perfect for any kind of photography or for shooting 8K video. But it does come at a steep price. However, if you've been lusting after it, there's over AU$900 to be saved when shopping on Amazon right now, so get it before it disappears.
Canon EOS R6 (body only) | AU$4,299 AU$3,644 on Amazon (save AU$655)
If you think the specs of the EOS R5 listed above is overkill for you, then perhaps the EOS R6 is a better fit. A mirrorless version of the EOS 6D Mark II, it's one heck of a shooter, with autofocus and continuous shooting speeds matching the more expensive R5. We think the R6's dynamic range isn't as good as the R5's but you will still no go wrong with this camera, not when you can save AU$655 on the body.
Canon EOS RP (body only) | AU$1,899 AU$1,498 on Amazon (save AU$401)
It might be the cheapest full-frame camera on the market but the EOS RP is hard to ignore. With excellent image quality and great performance, it's the perfect mirrorless camera for anyone on a tight budget. Yes, it's not as full-featured as the EOS R6, but it's a marvellous little snapper. Admittedly it was cheaper during Click Frenzy in May, but this isn't a bad price at all.
Canon EOS R (body only) | AU$3,399 AU$2,498 on Amazon (save AU$901)
Like the EOS RP, this camera was a touch cheaper during Click Frenzy. But if you missed out on that opportunity, then now is a good time to buy... or hope that it's even cheaper come Prime Day. If you can't wait, though, Canon's first ever full-frame mirrorless camera – perfect for amateurs and pros alike – is available for less than AU$2,500 on Amazon right now.
Nikon Z50 twin lens kit + ML-L7 remote | AU$2,092.18 AU$1,799 on Amazon (save AU$293.18)
One of the more advanced 'entry-level' APS-C format mirrorless cameras is actually one of the more expensive models. However, Amazon's Mid-year sale discount makes this kit – with two lenses and a remote – much better priced at AU$1,799. That's AU$200 less than what you'd pay at most Aussie retailers for the twin lens kit alone.
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV + EF 24-105 f/4 L II | AU$5,699 AU$4,136 on Amazon (save AU$1,563)
This aging camera has been a stalwart in the photography world. Canon has obviously done something right with the EOS 5D Mark IV as it remains one of best cameras available today, whether DSLR or mirrorless. Its cropped 4K and 61-point AF system might feel dated but that 30.4MP sensor is still excellent. And you can bundle it up with an excellent L-series piece of optic and still save over a grand and a half, which is one of the best prices we've seen on the kit.
If you don't need the lens, then the EOS 5D Mark IV body is also discounted down to AU$3,395 – a saving of AU$604 on the usual retail price.
Nikon CoolPix A1000 + ML-L3 remote | AU$699 AU$579 on Amazon (save AU$120)
Looking for an affordable point-and-shoot? This CoolPix is equipped with a 35x optical zoom to get you closer to the action, while also letting you capture it all at a pretty good 10fps burst rate. It's already quite affordable at AU$699 a pop, but here's your chance to save AU$120 on the little snapper.
Nikon Z6 + MB-N10 battery grip + EN-EL15b battery + 64GB XQD card | AU$2,999 AU$2,699 on Amazon (save AU$300)
Admittedly it's not a huge discount, but at present the Z6 retails for AU$2,599 for the body alone. Throw in an extra battery, the grip and an XQD card, and that cost does go up to almost three grand. Instead, you can get it all for a teensy bit less and save AU$300.
Panasonic Lumix G7 twin lens kit | AU$1,199 AU$832.50 on Amazon (save AU$366.50)
This micro four thirds camera is already pretty affordable, retailing for just AU$899 for the body alone. Throw in a couple of kit lenses and that price goes up into four figures. However, Amazon is probably giving us a taste of what's to come this Prime Day with this discount, which sees a two-lens Lumix G7 kit cost less than the RRP of the body alone. Now, that's a bargain!
Canon EOS 90D + EF-S 18-35mm f/4-6.5 IS STM | AU$1,899 AU$1,699 on Amazon (save AU$200)
This AU$200 discount may not seem like much on paper but to get a relatively new DSLR with a kit lens for this price is a pretty good bargain. It's already an affordable kit in any case and with a 32.5MP APS-C sensor, a burst speed of up to 11fps and Canon's trusty Dual Pixel AF on board, this is a great camera for beginners and hobbyists alike.
Canon EOS 6D Mark II (body only) | AU$2,399 AU$1,749 on Amazon (save AU$626)
We're hoping this amazing full-frame DSLR will be cheaper during Prime Day but this is one of the best prices we've seen recently. While it's not comparable to the mirrorless EOS R6, it definitely is a lot cheaper and great for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Get it on Amazon now and save over AU$600.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II + EF-M 15-45mm IS STM | AU$1,199 AU$875 on Amazon (save AU$324)
If you already own the original M50, then skip this deal. But if you're after a really good entry-level mirrorless, this APS-C format snapper is actually pretty darn good. It's only a minor upgrade from its predecessor but brings better autofocus capabilities and a vertical video recording option that will be great for social media. And at this price, it's hard to beat for the single-lens kit.
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II IS USM | AU$2,968.65 AU$2,499 on Amazon (save AU$469.65)
This Canon DSLR telephoto zoom has been remarkably popular and is still one of the best EF lenses money can buy. You'll find it for about AU$3,299 at most Aussie retailers at full price, but Amazon has discounted it down to AU$2,499, making this one of the best bargains we've seen on this particular lens to date.
Rokinon lenses | from AU$236.86 on Amazon
Buying third party lenses shouldn't be frowned upon, especially considering some of them have some excellent optics for a far lower price than those made by camera brands themselves. Rokinon is one of those and Amazon has discounted a selection of Ronikon lenses for different mounts, so be sure to check which lens fits your system before investing.
