Top print quality for a rock-bottom price per print: new Pixma G550, G620 and G650 MegaTank printers have it all!

Canon has expanded its growing range of MegaTank inkjet printers with two new models aimed at photo printing enthusiasts. The Pixma G620/G650 and G550 are the first MegaTank models to feature 6 ink tanks (rather than the usual 4), with the standard cyan, magenta, yellow and black tanks supplemented by additional grey and red ink tanks. These are said to provide a "wider color range, creating deeper shaded areas and richer colors for vibrant photos with strong contrast".
The six tanks use Canon's dye-based ChromaLife 100 ink, which Canon claims produces vivid, bold print quality with reduced color shift across different paper types - matte, gloss or semi-gloss.
The top-of-the-range model will be called the Pixma G620 in North America, and the G650 in Europe. The more basic G550 is currently not scheduled for release in the US.
But of course the big attraction with Canon's MegaTank printers is their low cost of printing. Both the G550 and G620/650 are rated to print around 3,800 4x6 photos from a single set of ink bottles. This size of print is also able to be printed in under 47 seconds, while a 100-sheet rear paper feed ensure the high volume ink tanks are fed with sufficient paper to meet heavy print demands.
The Canon Pixma G620/650 and G550 each boast Wi-Fi connectivity and remote printing via the Canon PRINT App, Mopria for Android or Apple AirPrint. A simple two line LCD display on the printers themselves simplifies printer settings adjustment and print management.
The G620/650 and G550 are identical in terms of their print quality and speed, as well as their ink tank configuration and 445 x 340mm physical footprint.

The only difference between the devices is the G620 and G650 add a 600 x 1200 dpi flatbed scanner on top, enabling scanning and copying functionality. It also raises the height of the G620/650 to 167mm, compared to the 136mm-tall G550.
The Pixma G550 and G650 are available to pre-order now, priced at £199 and £249 respectively.
The Canon Pixma 620 will be available at the end of the month for $299.99 - but you can pre-order now from Canon USA.
