With most camera makers putting much of their effort into their own full-frame mirrorless lines, there was a time when there weren't that many snappers for the beginners or the enthusiasts that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Then Canon released a few APS-C R-series cameras, filling that gap in the market.
While the Canon EOS R10 is one of the best entry-level cameras available today, it's the Canon EOS R7 that we're a little partial to, making its way to the top spot in our best enthusiast cameras list.
It's seen a discount of one flavour or another since its release in June 2023, and was at its cheapest for a body-only price of just AU$1,860 ahead of Black Friday last year – a price offered by Aussie retailer CameraPro. Since then, Amazon has been consistently discounting the kit and it was AU$2,353,05 during the Prime Big Deal Days sale for the RF-S 18-150mm single lens kit.
This kit is now even cheaper – dropping to AU$2,249.10 – which is less than the AU$2,299 RRP for the body alone! That's not all: you can also redeem a AU$400 bonus voucher directly from Canon that you can then spend at either July Luggage or at SnapWireless. Now, that is value indeed! Note, however, that the bonus voucher needs to be redeemed by October 23, 2024.

Even at full price, the R7 is a heck of a lot of camera, offering specs and features you'd typically see in more advanced models. What makes it affordable, though, is its sensor size – APS-C cameras are typically cheaper than full-framers. High-speed RAW capture, the same autofocus prowess of the more expensive R-series cameras, dual SD cards, 4K video and 32.3MP on tap, and that's just for starters. It's even got in-body image stabilisation and high speed shooting of up to 30fps.
If you're not too fussed about sensor size, but are looking for an affordable mirrorless camera that offers some serious pro-level grunt, then you should definitely consider the EOS R7, particularly at this discounted price point.
It's an advanced 32.5 megapixel APS-C format mirrorless camera aimed at enthusiast photographers who want to up their creative game. As a hybrid camera, the EOS R7 offers superb-quality 4K/30p video oversampled from 7K, and a silky-smooth 4K/60p mode as well... and it's uncropped too!
Its in-body image stabiliser works with a lens’s optical IS for video and stills capture at shutter speeds 7 stops longer than usual. Hybrid shooters will also love the deep-learning Dual Pixel CMOS AF II that tracks subjects and keeps them sharp. With its incredible speed, this camera is great for sports and wildlife photographers or those seeking to get into 4K video. In fact, its autofocus DNA comes from the more expensive models such as the EOS R3, EOS R5 and EOS R6.

Heck, it will even outshoot the first-generation R5 and R6, thanks to its maximum continuous shooting speed of 30fps.
And it's wrapped up in a compact and lightweight body with the RF-S lens designed to compliment that size package. The spec sheet just speaks for itself.
We don't anticipate this discount will last much longer, so snap it up (pun very much intended) before it gets more expensive.
