Do you want to be the very best, like no one ever was? Then to catch them is your real test, and to train them is undoubtedly your cause – which means you'll be powerless to resist this Pokémon phone case that turns your iPhone into a Pokédex.

There are plenty of Pokémon phone cases out there, but this is the first officially licensed Pokédex phone case to hit the market. It's being released by Premium Bandai in March 2020 in Japan, and is sure to be a particular hit with Pokémon Go addicts and hardcore cosplayers.

Sadly the Pokédex phone case won't suddenly turn your iPhone into an encyclopedic Pokémon database (unless you've got a wiki as one of your bookmarks), but this hard plastic shell will certainly let everyone know that you intend to catch them all.

• Protect your camera phone: Best phone cases

Interestingly, the Pokédex phone case is designed specifically for the iPhone X – it is not compatible with the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max. However, it will accommodate some of the best iPhones for photography including the iPhone 8, 7 and 6 – though the microphone and light will be obstructed by the case design.

Nor is the Pokédex phone case compatible with Android phones. Is the iPhone X really the phone that most Pokémon lovers own? We guess Bandai must have done the research, but we're fairly sure that this case is going to sell like hot cakes and other models will probably become available down the line.

The case measures a chunky 170mm x 103mm x 17mm and weighs in at 390g, so it's a fairly substantial thing. We've yet to see the back of it, so we've no idea how well (if at all) it accommodates the iPhone's rear camera, which is pretty vital since everyone who buys this is probably a big Pokémon Go player.

If you're not planning to be in Japan when it releases in March, you can pre-order the Pokémon Pokédex Smartphone Case from Nintendo Soup for $69.99.
