Canon EOS 200D/Rebel SL2 verdict
The 100D’s stunning compactness secured it a distinct niche. The 200D is only marginally larger, but that’s unfortunately enough to bring it close to the dimensions of competing cameras, diminishing any novelty factor. Fortunately the 200D is also a very capable all-round entry-level DSLR that’s easy to use, well featured and performs superbly.
It’s certainly a much more compelling camera than Canon’s bargain basement EOS 1300D, especially when paired with Canon’s excellent IS STM kit lens. However, the EOS 200D will cost you nearly double a 1300D IS II kit. Canon has a lot of new and older cameras on the market at the same time, and the EOS 200D is also pricier than the EOS 750D with 18-55mm IS STM lens, which is a more complete camera than the 200D and is still widely available.
Canon EOS 200D/Rebel SL2 competition
Fujifilm X-T20: The X-T20 uses the same sensor as the premium X-T2 and matches most of the bigger camera’s features. It’s good value given its capabilities.
Nikon D5600: Nikon’s challenger to the 200D is closely matched in size and performance. But Nikon’s SnapBridge system is a let-down, and the D5600 is not particularly cheap.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 II: It may be two years old, but this is still a great camera with an extensive feature set that doesn’t take up much space. The new OM-D E-M10 III brings some modest but worthwhile improvements.
