Viltrox is set to announce a brand-new mirrorless 85mm f/1.8 Z optic for Nikon Z mount mirrorless cameras.

The company already has established a firm footing in producing optics for mirrorless cameras including a trio of fast primes for Canon's EOS M cameras and an 85mm f/1.8 optic for Sony's mirrorless full frame E-mount. So the new Z mount 85mm addition seems like a natural progression.

According to Nikon Rumors, while no specific release date is confirmed, it comes just moment before Nikon's Nikkor 85mm f/1.2 Z is due to hit the shelves on 11 December, so we'd imagine it would be available around this time to compete with Nikon, offering Nikon Z users a more affordable short telephoto options with a slightly 'slower' maximum aperture.

The Sony-fit Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 retails for $399.
